Need Help? Specifically, need a more complete index in the VFP 9 SP2 Help?

As promised at the MVP Summit, Microsoft has made available the corrected VFP 9 SP2 Help file, which includes the missing index entries. Get the file at the Microsoft Download site.

One small step for VFP 9 SP2, one huge Help for VFP 9 developers…

Are you sure the fix does work properly? Internal links and css seem to be broken. Please check it out…

I downloaded the file and not work for me. (Visual FoxPro 9.0 on Windows XP Professional SP3 in Spanish)

Only showed me the index but not the right side panel.

This is a new great failure FoxPro Team, as the Splash Screen of VFP9 SP2.

    I am disappointed: (

Andrzeg – I don’t see internal links broken as I navigate the file. What exactly are you seeing?

I agree the cosmetic issues are a little annoying, but nothing compared to getting the index entries back.

    Luis,

I am using VFP 9 SP2 on Windows XP SP2, and the Help file works fine for me. Maybe you should download again. I downloaded the file to the machine I have VFP installed (not a network mapped drive or to another machine). I copied the file from the download folder to my VFP 9 SP2 folder. I am not sure this matters, but maybe you did something different from me and it does matter.

I have not read anything about Windows XP SP3 other than it was released last week. I doubt this would make a difference, but Microsoft has been known to break things with OS service packs.

    Hi Luis,

Is it possible this is the standard CHM downloaded from the Internet issue?

See: Rick Strahl’s fix for downloaded CHMs

    Thanks Rick,

Gregory Adam solved my problem in the following thread of UT:

Now I have only the technical and cosmetics problems commented on your new post.

Yes Luis, the fix you implemented was also in the link (and sublinks) I pointed you to with respect to Rick Strahl’s blog post.

Glad to see you got it fixed.

    Hi Rick,

Thanks for the heads up. I see they added a link to the VFP site on MSDN, too. The only down side to this fix is that this new version of the help file apparently does not support (or include) a Favorites tab. I use the index far more, so at least it’s an improvement. The new help file also displays “dv_foxhelp91″ in the window caption, instead of “Microsoft Visual FoxPro 9.0″, which is also a bit reminiscent of the first SP2 release splash screen.

    Hi Mike,

Hopefully the next post you read from my blog is the glitches I have found. Most are cosmetic as you have noted, but the missing PEM links are a bit more serious.
